Melbourne Victoria

If you want it all without travelling too much, the Victoria is your destination.   Victoria has a very diverse range of holiday options and every part of the state can be accessed within an easy days drive from the its capital city Melbourne.

Melbourne and Surrounds

Melbourne is a large cosmopolitan city.  The pace and culture in Melbourne is a little more sedate than Sydney, and has been regularly voted as Australia's 'Most Livable City'.  It boasts:

  • a series of world class sporting venues within walking distance of the CBD (home to a Grand Slam Tennis Tournament, the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, The Melbourne Cup Carnival and the AFL Grand Final, to name a few),
  • the best collection of restaurants in the country,
  • vibrant nightlife, entertainment and club environment, and
  • much, much more.

Situated on the Yarra River you can easliy spend a lazy day in Melbourne taking in the river, abundant gardens, sights of the area, grab a bite to eat then party on all night.  There is a free tram service that circles the city so take a few days and see this grand city.

Mornington Peninsula & The Bays

Melbourne boasts not one, but two bays (Port Phillip and Westernport) which are seperated by the Mornington Peninsula.  The eastern Port Phillip side of the penisinula offers sensational bayside beaches all the way down to the heads.  The bottom of the penisula is home to some excellent ocean beaches, whilst Westerport Bay to the eastern side of the penisnula has some good beaches and excellent fishing locations.  The pensinsula itself is rich farmland and home to some truly excellent wineries.  Port Phillip bay is aslo very popular for fishing and boating activites, and is the gateways to one of Australia businest ports.

South Western Coast & Great Ocean Road

The South Western Coast is a seemingly endless stretch of spectacular cliff formations and unparalled surf beaches.  The Bell Beach surfing classic is located here.  A large part of the coast is accessed via Australia most beautiful tourist drive: The Great Ocean Road.  Must stay places along here are Lorne, Apollo Bay and Port Fairy.  Just north of the Great Ocean Road is the Ottway ranges which offer spectacular scenery.

Gippsland and East Coast

Gippsland stretches from Westernport Bay right through to the NSW border along the south east coast south.  It is rich dairy farming land with truly amazing coastal towns for a great summer holiday.  Phillip Island is located in Westernport Bay and is a self contained holiday destination in itself and is accessed through the Gippsland side of Westernport Bay.  Is contains everything you need for a fun family holidays and well as some excellent torist attractions like the Penguin Parade and the seals at the Nobbies.

Wimmera & Mallee

If you like wide open spaces then this region is for you.  The area is characterised by endless fields of wheat and canola, and is dotted by some interetsing quintessential Australian country towns and regional centres.  You pass through this area on the way to South Australia and the Riverlands, so dont rush through take the time to have a good look.

Central & North East Victoria

Gold and wine are the major attractions of this area.  There are some fantastic historical mining attractions in this area and the very traditional and spectacular Ballarat and Bendigo are regional centres built of the income from gold during yesteryear.  The North East boast some spectacular mountain countryside and is the locaction of Victoria snowfields.  It is also the location of some excellent wineries.

Murray River Region

The Murray River starts in the Snowy Mountains and stertches through Albury/Wodonga right to Adelaide.  Its westernmost Victorian town is Mildura which combines river, farmaland, fruit growing and wine in this compact family holiday area.  In between are the historic towns of Echuca and Swan Hill.  The mighty Murray River is a unique Australian experience not to be missed.
