The national governing body for the sport of surfing downunder is Sufing Australia, which was established in 1963.
Surfing Australia has a stated vision to achieve the highest standards for surfing in Australia. The mission of Surfing Australia is to provide continuous quality development and opportunity in surfing. They also want to provide leadership and direction in the areas of elite competition, community participation, environmental awareness and education.
The home base for Surfing Australia at Casuarina Beach Resort where the High Performance Centre for Elite Development has been established. The High Performance Centre for Elite Development provides a world class facility for training coaches and testing high performance athletes in a full service live in environment. Surfing Australia Coaching Courses are recognized national accreditation.
Surfing Australia is recognized by the Australian Olympic Committee, and as members of the International Surfing Association, Surfing Australia promotes and manages competitive surfing in the region throughout Australasia.
Surfing Australia has seventy affiliated surf schools nationwide who, in the last year, delivered over 110,000 lessons. The Surfing Australia Worldwide network of Surf Schools delivers top quality lessons to all ages and abilities. They try to provide these lessons in a supportive learning environment.
Surfing Australia can provide lots of opportunities for young people who surf, and accepts everyone, from elite competitors to those who surf for the pure enjoyment of the sport.
